Nikolai Odell

Commander Nikolai Odell is a career military officer. Ever since his early childhood he had drempt about becoming an astronaut; when he was fifteen years old, the discovery of the prothean ruins on Mars gave him that chance. After three years at university he joined the Systems Alliance, graduating from the N7 training program and entering service shortly before the First Contact War.
Odell's career in special forces covers more than twenty-five years. Though the human conflict with the turians was quickly halted, Odell still has trouble working with turians, like many of his war-time comrades. During those early stages, he met and became friends with David Anderson.
Recently, most of Odell's missions have involved conflicts with mercenary and pirate groups, or with the batarians in the Terminus Systems. Odell and his unit were present on Elysium during the Skyllian Blitz in 2176, performing covert strikes against batarian targets. He met Staff Lieutenant Shepard briefly, though the two never became more than acqaintances in passing. He also encountered Katrin Laran for the first time during that mission.
In 2177, Odell and his unit were sent to Akuze when contact was lost with the pioneer team. Odell's company was ambushed by a Thresher Maw: fifty men under Odell's command were killed, though Nikolai himself managed to survive and kill the creature, saving numerous civilian lives in the process. Odell was decorated by the Alliance for his survival, and there is apparently now a statue of him on Akuze; Odell however focuses more on the fact that he failed to keep his men alive.
Mass Effect (RP)
In 2183, Odell was approached by David Anderson - now the human representative on the Citadel Council - to build a team to replace the one led by Commander Shepard, who had recently died. Not only was the unit intended to be an effective special operations force, it also needed to be a demonstration of the benefits of interspecies cooperation.
Shortly afterwards, Odell and his teammates were sent to the human colony Asteria, to help liberate it from a pocket of geth left over from Saren's Rebellion.
