MV-24 Peregrine

The UV-24 Peregrine is Treadstone Industries' answer to the V-22 Osprey, and is the culmination of seventy years of aerospace research and development by the company, incorporating technologies developed for several preceeding projects.
Development originally began with the intention of creating a jet-powered VTOL transport for the military, capable of conveying troops at high speeds over long distances to a target area, and then either deploying them from the air or by landing in a confined target area. Unlike the Osprey, which relied on fuel efficiency to reach distant targets, the Peregrine instead relied on getting there as swiftly as possible.
After criticisms over the VTOL handling of the A-11 Harpy however, Treadstone was not satisfied by simply reaching targets quickly: they wanted to provide a level of low-altitude VTOL control that rivalled that of a helicopter. Like their A-11 design, they achieved this by having separate propulsion systems for forward and vertical thrust. To increase stability however, they adapted the dual rotor system from the UH-73 Choctaw, providing a highly stable platform. At low altitudes, the wings would not be needed to generate lift at all: the downdraft from the two jet-fans would be more than sufficient to hold the craft aloft. To increase the level of control still further, variable geometry wings were designed, allowing the jet-fans to be moved independently; the variable geometry sections also functioned as control surfaces for the craft while flying at altitude.
Already, the Peregrine had exceeded the requirements of the project, but developers continued further. An AV-24 was proposed, mounting retractable gattling guns and missile hardpoints; designers also contemplated RV-24 and EV-24 variants, which would mount the equipment necessary to fulfill reconnaissance and electronic warfare roles. Adaption into an HV-24 for MEDIVAC purposes was also considered. Rather than develop five separate prototypes to demonstrate the designs potential to the military however, Treadstone designers managed to incorporate every concievable configuration into a single design; they nicknamed the prototype "HARVEY-24", an amalgam of all the possible designations.
Despite it being clear that HARVEY was just a prototype, the military asked Treadstone to investigate the possibility of developing a production version that incorporated as many of those features as possible. Funding for the resultant multi-role aircraft was ratified by congress, and the first production units of the MV-24 Peregrine entered service in 2009.

In real life, "24" is the next V- designation in the US military's numbering sequence.
The appearence of the MV-24 is based on the "quinjet" (or at least, on the aircraft filling the role of a Quinjet) in The Avengers movie. However, it's role more closely reflects that of a Colonial Raptor from the rebooted Battlestar Galactica series.
It's appearence is based on the eponymous helicopter from the movie Blue Thunder.
