Amos Iakona is a former officer of the Naboo Royal Guard, and scout in the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps. He retired and lived as a trader for several years before joining the Rebel Alliance as part of the SpecForce Rangers. While helping his father repay a debt to an old family friend, he discovered that he was Force sensitive, and became part of the new Jedi Order on the Wheel and later Ossus. Restless at staying put for so long, however, he has recently left Ossus to roam the galaxy aboard the Astral Queen.

History

Though his father is a Mandalorian, Amos didn't learn this about himself until adulthood. He was born and raised on Naboo, believing that his mother and father were ordinary, every day citizens. As soon as he was old enough, he followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Naboo Royal Guard; everything was well until the Empire decided to begin drafting Royal Guard volunteers into the Stormtrooper Corps. Amos hated every minute of it, frequently had authority issues with his superiors, and eventually found himself relegated to a scout trooper unit on Ord Varee, where he served with John Glayde and Jaden Luka. As soon as his mandatory tour of service was over he resigned and, with Jaden Luka, purchased the YT-2000 freighter Astral Queen, in the hopes of living "the simple life" as traders.

The simple life came to an end when the Astral Queen was saved by the Alliance Frigate Valiant. Jaden and Amos were invited to join the Alliance by John Glayde, their former commander, and both agreed: Jaden training as an A-Wing pilot, and Amos joining the SpecForce detachment. Amos served with various units, including Glayde's Dorn Force special ops team; but when his father asked him to help repay a family debt to Hugo Montegue, he discovered that he was - thanks to his mother - Force Sensitive, and an encounter with his uncle's ghost gave him a new perspective. He took a leave of absence from SpecForce to study the Force with the Jedi at The Wheel, and later settled on Ossus.

Amos found life as a Jedi to be a struggle. Having spent too many years as a sceptic, he struggled to believe that certain Jedi skills were even possible (for him, at least): in particular, he found the concept of being able to deflect blaster bolts difficult to accept, and was criticised by his instructors for wielding his lightsaber too much like a conventional vibroblade. In 10 ABY he left Ossus and travelled to Naboo to obtain a Gungan energy shield - an out of the box solution to some of his lightsaber issues - and as yet has not returned to the Jedi.

Years From Now

In the future, Amos had become Commander of Clan Koine, and had settled on Susevfi. He was a respected member of the community, and his Mandalorians had become an unofficial militia, helping with defense, law enforcement, and also routine tasks like building and agriculture. The Saarai-kaar considered him to be part of his extended family.

Relationships

• Amaros Koine is Amos' father, though for most of his life he knew him as Amos Iakona, Senior. Amaros was one of the Mandalorians employed to train Clone Commandos, and retired under an assumed identity on Naboo when the Clone Wars began. With the political changes on Mandalore, Amaros has begun to impress upon Amos how important it is that he embrace his heritage, but Amos is - as yet - reluctant to do so.

• Cheyenne Hidatsa † was, as far as Amos was aware, was a perfectly normal citizen of Naboo. It wasn't until long after she died that Amos discovered she had once been a Jedi Padawan who had left the Order long before the Jedi Purge. She married Amaros during the Clone Wars; when Order 66 was declared, he went to great lengths to expunge any record of her and protect her from Imperial reprisals, leaving very little details about his mother's former life for Amos to learn about.

• Mandan Hidatsa † was Amos' uncle, taken away to the Jedi Order as an infant. Amos never knew him while he was alive, but during a visit to Ord Ithil, Amos found himself possessed by his uncle in order to fight a Dark Jedi and save Inyos Aamoran. Since then, Amos has occasionally had encounters with Mandan's ghost, though they are few and far between.

• John Glayde was the leader of Amos' scout trooper unit on Ord Varee, and was the man who, long after Amos had retired, convinced him to join the Rebel Alliance, and SpecForce. Glayde is one of the only superiors that Amos ever had any kind of respect for,

• Jaden Luka and Amos served together as scout troopers on Ord Varee, and both retired at roughly the same time, using their pensions and savings to purchase the Astral Queen. Jaden served as the pilot and de facto Captain; but after he became involved with the Starfighter Corps and Rogue Squadron, Amos became the ship's sole owner.

• Inyos Aamoran was trapped on Ord Ithil, possessed by a Dark Jedi. He was the reason that Mandan Hidatsa borrowed Amos' body, in order to help subdue the Dark Jedi and free Inyos from it's control. Though both Inyos and Amos found themselves on the Wheel, their shared experience meant that they both kept mostly to themselves.

• Cleo Némain was a fellow Jedi that Amos met during his time on The Wheel. Initially he found her irritating, but eventually that turned into a grudging affection for the strange little woman. She was one of his travelling companions when he returned home to Naboo, and has become part of the crew of the Astral Queen.

• Wyl Staedtler is the son of Mandan Hidatsa, and Amos' cousin. The two know each other from Amos' time amongst the Jedi, and while they aren't particularly close, Wyl is one of the few people in the whole galaxy that Amos regards with any kind of fondness.

• Desmond Nil'vak was a fellow Jedi student on Ossus, who like Amos felt like something of an outsider among the other Jedi. Desmond had been raised in an isolated community with a different outlook on the Force, and had just as much trouble adjusting to the idea of being a Jedi as Amos did. He and Amos accidentally became close friends, and Desmond joined Amos on his trip to Naboo, remaining on the Astral Queen since.
