Powers
The Smoke Man can transform into a mobile, sentient cloud of black smoke. In this form he can fly at great speed and pass through any barrier that is permeable to gases. The smoke is noxious to the mouth and throat and can cause asphyxiation if inhaled. The Smoke Man can change between his solid and gaseous forms very rapidly while in combat, making him very a difficult target. This transformation appears to include his clothing and whatever personal items he is carrying.
The nature of the Smoke Man's perception while in his smoke form is unclear. When Ramona Calaveras mimicked his powers, she saw the world without color.
Personality
Little is known about the Smoke Man. He appeared as a hitman hired by the Tres Onces street gang to counter their mutant foes in La Raza and Redención House. He is a ruthless and relentless combatant and an implacable foe.
The Smoke Man uses his powers to ambush his victims. Even though he could presumably envelop and suffocate his opponents, he prefers take solid form and attack with a long knife. When threatened, he returns to his gaseous form, rendering himself impervious to most physical attacks. When fighting the Smoke Man, one's options are limited: one must either disperse him enough to prevent him from taking solid form or interfere with his control telepathically.
