Design
The Nemesis-class is a dedicated assault ship. It is unable to operate without escort because of the lack of fighters. Its hangar holds assault craft and shuttles needed for planetary assaults. Because of this, few Nemesis-class ships were commissioned. Atmospheric Stabilizers are the main cosmetic difference between the Nemesis-class and other star destroyer classes. The Nemesis is designed to enter a planet's atmosphere and launch assault troop transports. It is equipped with one hundred and twenty heavy missile tubes to bombard planetary installations and shielding to soften a target for troops to engage. Another cosmetic difference is the lack of the flanking heavy turbolaser turrets. These have been removed to make room for torpedo storage and the external bracing for the atmospheric stabilization system. Fifty heavy turbolaser batteries are place over the dorsal and ventral hull, as are ten ion cannons
History
Six such ships have been commissioned. All serve in the Imperial territories north of Coruscant, generally kept in reserve until needed. Two each can be found in the Perinn, Braxant, and Atrivis Sector Fleets.
