The Nebulon-B Frigate is a small capital ship used by the Empire and Alliance as well as other Independent orginizations.

Design
These ships have several docking fixtures for fighter craft as well as light and medium freighters. Also, the Nebulon-B has sophisticated sensors and deep-space, multi-frequency antennas, allowing them to function as long-range scouts or relay battle information to a command ship. These vessels proved very capable of their designed task and soon phased out the old C Class frigates. Many of these vessels somehow found their way into rebel and pirate hands. Many Nebulon B Frigates were modified into mobile medical vessels for use in the Alliance support services fleet.
The standard Nebulon-B frigate was armed with twelve turbolaser batteries, twelve laser cannons, and two tractor beam projectors. It was designed to carry twenty-four TIE series starfighters.
While generally well-armed for a vessel of that size, its midsection connecting spar was a vulnerability. It could be split open by concentrated heavy weapons fire, venting the frigate's atmosphere and killing most of the crew.
History
Also known as the rebel cruiser, these ships were built by the empire as counter insurgency vessels. Built to defend Imperial convoys from rebel and pirate attacks, the EF76 was introduced some months after the Clone Wars, long before the formal establishment of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. It largely phased out the Class-C frigate. The Nebulon-B was originally designed to defend Imperial convoys against raids by Rebel starfighters. The Imperial Navy was loath to relegate its expensive Imperial Star Destroyer to escort duty, while the Corellian Corvettes were too weak and carried few if any TIE Fighters.
