Design

The Scharnhorst is one of two unique modifications of the Golan III Space Defense Novagun manufactured by Golan Arms. Teaming up on the design project, Engineers from both Tempest Engineering Works and Sorosuub expanded the station, adding additional compartments that allowed for the housing of an additional reactor core, the guts and cannon of a KDY-150 Planetary Ion Cannon, additional crew quarters, and two medium hangar bays, each capable of housing thirty six starfighters. The existing weaponry of the Golan III was modified for efficency purposes, with the fifty medium turbolaser batteries replaced by five heavy barbettes and the twenty six proton torpedo launchers replaced by fifty concussion missile launchers.

History

The Golan IIIb Modifications were intended to allow Scharnhorst to fend off an entire Task Force of Imperial Star Destroyers during an Imperial Raid, fielding enough starfighters to act as an adequate screen for the station against the threat of Imperial fighters and bombers. During the Imperial Raid on Mustafar in 9.300 ABY Scharnhorst inflicted considerable damage on the flagship of the Atravis Sector Fleet, the Praetor-II Class Star Battlecruiser Omnipotent.
