Father
Orlan Tyree (dec.)
Vansen Tyree is a retired Fighter Pilot, who served as a command officer in the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars. He has since become involved with the Rebel Alliance, currently serves as the Commander of the 103rd Interdictor Squadron, and as Captain of the Alliance Cruiser Horizon. Previously, he served as Captain of the Valiant.
Republican and Imperial
|
A veteran of decades serving with the Republic Navy, Major Vansen Tyree served as a high-ranking Fighter Pilot in the years that preceeded the Clone Wars. However, when the Wars entered full swing, the Republic was quick to consolodate its experienced personnel in the upper echelons, leaving the more dangerous roles of ground forces and pilots to the Kaminoan Clone Troopers. The Major found himself dragged out of his flight suit and dumped unceremoniously into a duty uniform on the bridge of one of the Republic's Acclimator-class Star Destroyers, coordinating the assaults of the ship's entire fighter Wing. He soon demonstrated an aptitude for command, and was elevated to the position of Executive Officer. He served with distinction for the remainder of the conflict, but unfortunately lost an eye during the destruction of his ship at the Battle of Coruscant. Highly commended however, Vansen recieved command of his own Victory-class Star Destroyer in the restructuring that followed the war.
Though vocal about most subjects, politics was something that Vansen was determined not to get involved in. Though perhaps not comfortable with some of the orders he was given during the early years of the Empire, he remained loyal to the legally elected government, and his dedicated service was rewarded with an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. An aged and grizzled officer by the time of the Battle of Yavin however, Vansen was savvy enough to see through the fradulent cover story of the "Rebel" Death Star; citing his age as a factor, he retired from Imperial service.

The Rebel Alliance
|
A retired Capain Tyree, as a Rebel on Thila.
Deciding to settle in the Outer Rim, away from the worst of galactic affairs (in theory), Vansen got to see first hand just what his service to the Empire had allowed. Seeing the plight of the Emperor's subjects he became sympathetic to the cause of the Rebellion, and particularly with those activists from Alderaan wishing to seek vengeance for the destruction of their planet; he later became involved in Rebel activities on his retirement homeworld of Thila.
Eventually, Vansen's sympathies were noted by officers in the Rebel fleet, and he was approached to join The Rebel Alliance. Initially he was resistant, but the possibility of dragging himself out of his dull and boring retirement and back into action again - even if it was on a bridge, rather than in the cockpit - soon became too attractive for him to decline. He agreed to lend his experience to the Alliance Navy, and went so far as to command a Nebulon-B Escort Frigate during the Battle of Endor.
In the years after Endor, Vansen was assigned to command the Alliance Cruiser Valiant and unleashed on a campaign of guerilla-style hit-and-run operations against Imperial targets and along the Hydian Way. During one such mission, Vansen enlisted the assistance of former Scout Troopers Jaden Luka and Amos Iakona, drafting them into the Rebellion after the Valiant turned up just in time to rescue them from an overzealous Imperial patrol. (Ride of the Valkyries)
After damage was suffered by the Valiant in an engagement with an Imperial Star Destroyer approximately two years after Endor, the ship returned to Mon Calamari for repairs. With his ship out of action, Captain Tyree coordinated a brief joint operation between the fighter forces of the Valiant and the infamous Rogue Squadron. (Raids, Rogues and Arithmatic)
Shortly after, Tyree was informed of his promotion to Line Captain and reassignment to the Dauntless-class Cruiser Horizon, and was placed in command of the 103rd Interdictor Squadron. The unit was deployed as part of a military effort to liberate the Bothan homeworld. (Two Roads Diverged..., Liberation - Battle of Bothawui)
