Born into a fiercely loyal Imperial family, Grace wanted to follow in her brother Vega's footsteps and applied to the Corulag Military Academy, and was accepted. Being a woman, it was the greatest moment in her life. Until her second year, when she was raped by three masked assailants and told to quit, unless she wanted to repeat this night, every night. So she did and was made as an example that women were not tolerated at Corulag. Tormented by what happened, she was approached by Keth, a former Imperial Army Officer, and offered hope with training and another chance to reapply at a different Academy. In truth, he was a Rebel recruiter who waited until the proper time to reveal his identity and explained the Rebel cause. Soon after, she met Dasquian Belargic who felt that her experience would be well suited as part of Rebel Intel. He brought her before Bail Organa himself, and after speaking with him, Grace was set in her path and would do anything the Alliance required of her so the people of the galaxy could be free from the Emperor's tyranny.

Grace Van-Derveld was a wealthy businesswoman, operating out of Kuat. Grace made her fortune selling luxurious liners and yachts out of the Kuat shipyards. Unlike the rest of her family, Grace had no interest in learning the ways of the Force - though maintained a fairly amicable relationship with her brother Vega, in spite of his own connections to the Sith.
