During Ithella's lethal strike, Itala's son Ares dives in front of his father to sacrifice himself and save him, but she decided it was her destiny and not the young heir's. She stood no chance and perished during the attack, but her sacrifice would begin what would be the darkest and most glorious chapter in the Marzullo saga. This sacrifice was huge, single-handedly saving the lives of Itala and the next leader, Ares. If those two had died, Dante would have easily claimed the throne with one fell swoop.
