(ex) Viper Squadron
Originally an RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptor Squadron, the Viper Squadron formed part of the compliment aboard the Star Destroyer Horizon, with Raptor Squadron. Aboard the Horizon, a flight from Viper Squadron was constantly kept on alert status - the "Alert Vipers" - ready to be deployed within a few moments' notice.
When Commodore Vansen Tyree, the commander of the Horizon, was reassigned to the Challenger, the Vipers were one of the units he specifically requested become part of his new ship's compliment. They were combined with two other A-Wing units to form Viper Group, operating a mix of standard RZ-1 A-Wings and the more advanced RZ-2.
Behind the Scenes
The name of the squadron is a reference to the fighters that appear in the Battlestar Galactica television series. The logo used is that of a British ice hockey team.
