Originally established as a T-65B X-Wing Starfighter Squadron, the Talons were part of the space superiority component of the Air Group aboard the Star Cruiser Horizon. They specialised in interdiction operations, engaging the escort groups of Imperial supply convoys, either as simply to cause harassment and disruption, or as part of "resource gathering" missions for the Alliance.

At the request of the Horizon's Captain, Vansen Tyree, twelve of the new RZ-2 A-Wing Interceptors were made available for Talon Squadron. Captain Jaden Luka - a Rogue Squadron pilot who had previously served in an A-Wing Squadron on one of Tyree's previous commands - was brought in to help the Talon pilots adapt to the differences between the performance of the X-Wing and A-Wing.

Following the redeployment of Viper and Raptor Squadrons to the Challenger, Talon Squadron is the only original member of the Horizon Air Group still based aboard. The Horizon's current deployment with the Fifth Fleet at Bothawui has the Talons seeing less front-line combat, though they are still occasionally deployed with the Horizon on disruption missions along the Perlemian Trade Route.

Behind the Scenes

Talon Squadron is part of a reference to the Battlestar Galactica television series, in conjunction with Raptor Squadron; the two X-Wing units together refer to "Operation Raptor Talon".
