The son of a First World War veteran, Wayland Godfrey went on to have an extensive career himself, serving in the British Army during the Second World War and the Cold War that followed, ultimately achieving the rank of Brigadier.
As a young officer, Godfrey participated in Operation Pelius as a member of Special Wing; years later, he was appointed the commander of Operation Damocles. Both groups were significant parts of the history of mutants in Great Britain.
