The '''''Hammer''-class Heavy Cruiser''' was designed shortly after the [[Battle of Hoth]] and put into action to fill a void within the Imperial Fleet - medium capital warships that were fast but also able to stand their own against Rebel warships. While [[Star Destroyer]]s more than fit that number, changing tactics has saved them from singular and piece-meal destruction.

The ''Hammer''-class possesses the speed of a medium cruiser and weaponry expected from a vessel its size; as a result of this however, protection has been sacrificed. ''Hammer''s have very thin armor on the hull; this weakness has been concealed by greatly improved shield strength. Shields however, can be overwhelmed by multiple explosions before recharge cycles are complete. Speed here, is its best defense.

Deployment of ''Hammer''s has been sporadic since the Battle of Endor, but much more prevalent than before. While some Grand Admirals such as Desaria and Batch only grudgingly acknolwedge anything other battleships, farsighted Grand Admirals like Pitta and Faerius have embraced smaller, more nimlble craft and use them to fill out their personal armadas. The ''Hammer''s are ships best put as added hitting power on the fringe of a larger formation or acting as the center piece of faster commands.
