Hello, hello. Wanted to run it by everyone but with Helghast's imminent return, sponsored by Tear and a few other involvements, I would like to make sure that there are no significant desynchronizations or conflicts when Helghast brings a group, very similar to the Nightmares, likely named something close to but different, back into the foray? I'm set to do it, just want to work out details and see if anyone is interested in a role in the new generation. I can see these Nightmares having internal issues with lots of the other Imperial factions but they do serve a sincere purpose that we all know needs to be fulfilled, right? Systematic execution and removal of seditious threats to the Empire from the shadows, namely those adepts that fail to submit to the Empire's authority! Looking forward to RP'ing with the good ol' Empire once again! Thanks.
I'm all for it! The Nightmares were a big part of Swfans lore. Their resurgence, even though re-imagined, can only be a good thing for the boards.
You know I'm in
Is this particular group affiliated with the Inquisitors? They Force sensitive? I have a few more characters to transfer and depending on this group's makeup, I may be able to insert one to help.
I'll elaborate from what I've always had and also what I've worked out talking through some collaboration with others. Helghast was the initial leader of the first gen Nightmares. It was a special death squad made up of non-force adepts meant to hunt and kill force adepts and dissidents of the Empire in a very KGB/evil Rainbow Six kind of way, equipped with very high end gear. So a squad of approximately six to ten would always pick a fight with one or two force adepts and take them down usually, never fighting fair, as each of the Nightmares was a specialist, demo, scout, sniper, pilot, covert infiltration, etc. So they did this for a while, the Nightmares lead by Y'roth Helghast under Inquisitor Karl Valten even consolidated more of the power in the Inquisition and had a subtle hand to play in the rise of the current Empress. So there was a second generation of Nightmares and then by the third, Y'roth was promoted to an Inquisitor and he took Valten's place as the "director" of the Nightmares. He took the Nightmares into the outer rim to hunt something/someone down but instead... (thats the super short summary of Helghast's involvement, the Nightmares continued some after his disappearance but for the most part the group fell into remnants, within the Inquisitoriate or off the radar) Instead Helghast was trapped and imprisoned, his assets and whatever else seized and absorbed back into the fold, while he was put into cold stasis and sealed away. The Inquisitoriate and select personalities determined that it was likely better if Helghast's dogmatic and extreme machinations were put on hold while the Imperial Knights were created (a move he would've killed people over likely) and other initiatives were carried out. The stasis should've lasted up until the Empire decided it needed his services once more. So Tear through quite a roundabout way, engineers Helghast's escape. Helghast is freed and reasserts himself within the Empire, empowered by Tear to do so, and he raises up the 4th generation Nightmares under him. Still working on a name. Think something more like the Suicide Squad for the Empire. And with Helghast at the lead, he only employs Force Adepts if they are essentially enslaved to the Empire and grafted with a personnel bomb for insurance. And while I'm looking to have the group be something like that, the kill team will also have a mini-fleet and shock troops to back it up. The new Nightmares will have some in house rivalries for sure, especially with the Imperial Knights which sounds really fun, but ultimately Helghast operates in the Empire's best interests, at least what he thinks are its best interests.
